It all began with a few lyrics from an unknown artist in 1990.
Music had always been an important part of my life. Growing up, I would spend hours in my bedroom with the stereo playing. I would wake up in the middle of the night with my full ear headphones still attached to my head.
But in 1990, I was introduced to an artist named Enigma who opened a entirely new genre of music to me – New Age. A type of music that invokes a calm, serene sense of being. With the discovery of Enigma, came many others – Yanni, Vangelis, Enya, Delerium, Moby.
Along with my love of new age music, I was very heavy into the club scene and loved special mixes. Several radio stations would feature special dance mix shows on weekend nights and I would record and catalog each of the shows.
Then, around 2007, while searching for Enigma, Moby and other artists special mixes, I stumbled across MDB who has a series called Beautiful Voices. With this find, MDB introduced me to even more chillout and downtempo artists and DJ’s.
This website began as a way for me to keep track of what mixes I had downloaded from the artist and DJ’s that I listen to on a daily basis. After launching the website, I found that there were many others like myself who enjoy the same type of music. So, here we are…

Thank you for a great site. I too have been listening and amassing a sizable library of chill-out and associated genres since 2002. I have a question, you post links to downloads like Promo-DJ, however you also mention “Download, sit back and relax!” etc. for music without links. I would like to know how to download these files. Facebook, Mix-cloud, Sound-cloud and YouTube sometimes have a few links to downloads but it takes time to search and locate the few.

Thanks Greg for the contact. When available from the original source and if allowed by the DJ or artist, we will provide links to the files. The “Download, sit back and relax!” was implemented back when many of the episodes were available for download and prior to Arcadian Forest featuring music from sites that would only stream such as Mixcloud, Soundcloud, etc. Maybe it’s time to change our catch phrase. 😉

I read your About section and it almost was a similar experience that got me into the chillout scene. MDB would have been the biggest factor. I also loved the chillout mixes by DJ River.
I started mixing this type of music in 2011. I create uplifting chillout mixes in a series called “Unwind” that span many downtempo genres and includes beautiful carefully picked and seamlessly mixed melodic tunes.
