MDB: A Gateway to Chillout and Ambient Music

MDB opened up a world of new ambient and chillout music for me. I already loved artists like Enigma, Moby, and Schiller, and while searching for similar music, I discovered MDB’s Beautiful Voices radio show. Listening to his sets led me to even more DJs and artists, many of whom I now feature here at Arcadian Forest.

MDB’s Return

Sometime last year, MDB took a break to focus on his personal life—but we’re happy to say, he’s back! During his time away, his website was unexpectedly taken down by the host without any warning. Now, he has a new site up and running and is working to restore content and fix links.

MDB’s Background

MDB began as a radio DJ in 1995, but his love for music started much earlier—when he was just six years old. As a child, he played with tapes and decks instead of toys. He was influenced by artists like Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, and Kraftwerk. Ben Liebrand also shaped his style. In 1991, he discovered electronic genres like trance, rave, and techno (L.A. Style – “James Brown Is Dead”; Guru Josh – “Infinity”).

He developed a deep passion for ambient-chill music. Over time, he focused on the softer side of trance, launching his Beautiful Voices project, which became a huge success.

MDB’s Philosophy

“I don’t want the focus to be on me, but on the music. I’m not here to compete with other DJs or climb DJ rankings. So please:

DON’T VOTE FOR ME ON ANY DJ LIST!

Instead, show your support for the artists in my sets. Buy their music and vote for them!”

Beautiful Voices Project

Beautiful Voices is a downtempo chill series that began in January 2007. It explores different ambient subgenres, including Vocal-Chill, Ambiental-Trance, Balearic, Ethnic-Lounge, New Age, Space, and World.

By October 2007, Beautiful Voices became a two-hour bi-monthly radio show, with MDB mixing each episode and featuring a 40-minute Guestmix.

In February 2011, Beautiful Voices Radio Show (BVRS) returned to the Chillout Dreams Channel as a monthly show, premiering on DI FM every third Monday. Plans were in place to return to a bi-monthly schedule soon.
